A Day in my Life | Solo Disneyland Day

Tuesday, May 23, 2017

Sometimes life gets stressful and you just need to take a mental health day. This is how I was feeling last week. Graduate school has been keeping me stressed beyond belief and I needed to blow off some steam. The place that always works wonders for me is Disneyland. Unfortunately, I didn't have anybody available to go with. I decided to just head to Disneyland solo for the first time. Let me tell you, it was a blast!

I arrived at the parks around 10:00 AM, which was about an hour or so after opening. The lines to get into Disneyland were pretty long but the lines for California Adventure were tiny so I decided to head there first. My first stop inside DCA was Soarin' Around the World, where I grabbed a fast pass. I then headed back to Buena Vista Street and watched the Red Car Trolley News Boys perform. I had never been able to watch the whole performance before and I thought it was great!

When the performance was over, I headed into Hollywoodland and grabbed an Orange Dream from Schmoozes. While drinking my Orange Dream, I headed to Cars Land to ride Radiator Springs Racers. The line for RSR is always at least 90 minutes and fast passes sell out really fast so I have only ridden this ride a couple times since it opened. Since I was flying solo this day, I headed into the Single Rider line for the first time. I was able to get on the ride after waiting for only 10 minutes! After RSR, my fast pass time for Soarin' was available so I headed back. I had headed in at the right time because there were a couple single rider seats available so I got on right away!

After riding Soarin', it was time for lunch and I already knew that I wanted to eat at my favorite restaurant in the parks, the Plaza Inn, so I headed over to Disneyland. The Plaza Inn is famous for their fried chicken, which is totally amazing, but I always get the penne pasta with chicken pesto Alfredo sauce. It is so good! I took my time eating and relaxing in the AC, which was amazing. When doing Disney with a group, it's always go, go, go! It's so nice to be able to take your time and really enjoy the day!

After lunch I headed over to New Orleans Square since Indiana Jones was closed that day for refurbishment (bummer!). The line for Pirates was way too long so I grabbed a fast pass for Haunted Mansion. My fast pass return time was only an hour away so I spent that time strolling around New Orleans Square and Critter Country, just enjoying the scenery and taking pictures.

After riding Haunted Mansion, I headed over to Tomorrowland because I really wanted to check out the Star Wars Launch Bay. I wasn't able to check it out the last time I visited because I was with my niece and she wasn't really into it. The Launch Bay has all kinds of really cool Star Wars memorabilia and opportunities to meet some characters! I ended up meeting Chewbacca and Darth Vader!

It was starting to get into the mid-afternoon at this point and I knew I wanted to head home around 5 so I went straight to Fantasyland and got in line for Peter Pan. It had been a super long time since I had ridden it and it was on my list of things that I had to do that day! The line was super long (as usual) so it took up a good portion of my afternoon (still worth it). From the line I was able to see Belle and the Beast riding King Arthur Carousel and I was able to see the Evil Queen walking around.

Before heading home, I wanted to grab one last snack and decided on a soft serve ice cream cone from Paradise Pier Ice Cream Co. There are so many great places to grab ice cream in Disney but this is one of my favorites since I prefer soft serve and I love the view of the boardwalk!

Overall I have to say that my very first solo trip to Disneyland was a total success and I will definitely do it again very soon!

  3. I love the idea of going to an amusement park alone, I'd LIVE in the single rider lines lol.
